Orizome Paper Dyeing for Kids
Event description
Orizome roughly means "folded dyeing" in Japanese. Sometimes called Orizomegami ("folded dyeing paper"), this technique results in striking geometric patterns. It's a fairly accessible way for anyone to dye papers for mixed media work, decoupage, gift wrapping, making cards, or just showing off in a frame. This is a beginner-friendly activity and a colorful way to start making art.
We'll be using food coloring (allergen-free) in a variety of colors and experimenting to see what kinds of patterns we can come up with! If we have time, we'll tackle a quick project that allows us to see our paper in action. All materials are included.
Please note that this can be a messy activity. At the very least, you may end up with dyed fingers. We recommend dressing appropriately. Feel free to bring gloves and/or an apron. ** This activity is best for kids with solid fine motor skills and a bit of patience. If you're not sure, you are welcome to stay and work with your child.
This class is open to participants ages 8-15. ALL PARTICIPANTS MUST HAVE A WAIVER ON FILE. We will have hard copies available on site. Please also refer to our parking and accessibility information.
