Parent Training Workshop: Approaching Adulthood
Description
Understand the important decisions and supports that can shape your young person's future
As your young person ages closer to adulthood, planning for their future can feel overwhelming. Join Kiind for our online Parent Training Workshop, Approaching Adulthood for parents and carers of young people with a disability aged 18 and under. We’re excited to be joined by expert speaker, Teresa from Developmental Disability WA (DDWA).
DDWA is a Western Australian organisation that provides information, advocacy, support and resources for people with developmental disability and their families and carers. DDWA works to help people with developmental disability have choice, control, inclusion and a stronger voice in decisions that affect their lives. They also support families to understand and navigate systems such as the NDIS, Centrelink, health services, guardianship and other supports.
This workshop will explore some of the questions families commonly have about Centrelink, the NDIS and Medicare as their young person approaches adulthood. It’s particularly important to understand what you may need to put in place before your child turns 16, so you can feel prepared and confident.
In this workshop, we will explore:
Medicare privacy – What changes when your young person turns 14
Centrelink – Centrelink nominees, Disability Support Pension (DSP) and Health Care Card
Carer Payment and Carer Allowance – What happens when your young person turns 16
NDIS nominees – Understanding your options and responsibilities
Guardianship and administration – What families need to know
Q&A – An opportunity to ask Teresa your questions
Join us for an informative and practical session to help you understand what to expect and how you can start preparing for this important transition.
