Event description

PASSING 2024

The SRV Practicum 5 Day course for learning  more about Social Role Valorisation (SRV)

Sydney, NSW 6-10 May 2024

ABOUT THIS COURSE

Learn more about SRV and see the reality of issues involved in trying to support people to acquire socially valued roles in community life. You visit two human services; have interviews and conversations with people who receive the service and those who provide the service.

Following each study visit, you use rigorous discussion and evaluation to analyse the impact of the service on the lives of the people who receive the service. Participants work in small teams led by a Team Leader to use ‘PASSING’ an SRV-based service evaluation tool.

Through this process, participants more deeply understand the needs of the people and what it is that the service does to meet those needs. Services visited in the past have included aged care facilities, special schools, day programs, business services and supported accommodation services. It is a demanding but extremely rich workshop.

Who should attend?

Those who want to use SRV in a service context.

Are you interested in deepening your understanding of the issues facing human services? Do you want to create positive change? If so, this course is for you. This includes both family members and anyone who is working in human services.

Prerequisites

All participants must have completed a 2 or 4 day formal Social Role Valorisation (SRV) theory event, approved by Australian Social Role Valorisation Association (ASRVA) and with an approved Senior Trainer.  If in doubt about your eligibility, please contact us.

This is a live-in workshop and fees to attend include:

  • Accommodation
  • All meals (except dinner on Thursday)

Participants must also have a PASSING manual to use for the duration of the event. This is an excellent resource for your organisation - purchase from Community Resource Unit (CRU) for $110 including postage, - go to cru.org.au or ph (07) 3844 2211.

Alternatively you can hire a PASSING Manual for a fee of $30.00. It is essential to read particular parts of the manual before the event begins.

Leadership Groups and Teams Leaders

Senior Trainer John Armstrong has had a long career in many human service roles, the last thirty  as a human service consultant, evaluator and trainer to people, families and organisations across Australia, NZ and other parts of the world. His work is underpinned by the knowledge and application of Social Role Valorisation (SRV) which provides a practice framework for successfully transforming  the lives of people who are, or at risk of being, devalued by their communities.

John will be assisted by Kane Morgan and Sharon Lowe in the oversight of the course and PASSING Teams. Participants work in teams, each of which will be led by a person experienced in SRV and the use of PASSING.

"My own personal awareness has been heightened off the scale!”
“A very positive experience… I feel like a light has been switched on”
