Join us for a relaxed and friendly Dog Ownership Workshop, organised by Keep Learning Mid Canterbury and Ashburton District Council.
We have a panel of dog experts, including a local vet and a dog trainer, who will share lots of great information.
Whether you're considering getting a dog, are new to owning a dog, or just want to be a more responsible and confident dog owner, this free event is packed with useful tips and advice to help you become the best dog owner you can be. It is ideal as a refresher for experienced dog owners too and especially helpful for dog owners who are new to the District.
What we’ll cover:
Understanding your dog’s needs – food, exercise, socialisation, and enrichment
Basic training and behaviour tips – how to encourage good habits early on
Council rules and responsibilities – dog registration, microchipping, leash laws, and local bylaws
Local tips - dog exercise areas, dog parks etc.
Keeping your dog (and others) safe – managing aggression, barking, and roaming
Health and wellbeing – regular vet care, vaccinations, and parasite prevention
Dog etiquette in public places – tips for parks, beaches, and walking trails
