PERIPHERAL - around the edges of creativity

    DATES September 19-21 2024

    LOCATION
Blue Mountains (Darug & Gandangara Land). Friday main seminar day will be at Everglades House & Garden, 37 Everglades Ave, Leura NSW 2780

Peripheral: Related to or sitting on the edge

Regional architecture is often at the edge of our focus in community life, but shapes so much of how we experience place.

Similarly the Blue Mountains is a vast national park with spectacular cliffs and valleys and large sweeping views. Yet the development pattern is along the East West ridgeline through a series of small villages with an intimate small town character, constantly in tension with the expansive landscape they reside in.

At PERIPHERAL we will explore what is happening at the edges of architecture that is shaping and influencing the way we experience place.

Join us for a varied program of activities including diverse speakers, an art gallery visit, site and factory tours plus the community and connection that are part and parcel of a RAA event.

    CONTRIBUTORS
Creative directors Andrew Elia and Tahlia Garland of IDG Architects have curated a diverse group of speakers from the fields of art and architecture to explore the edges of their creative process.

    THE LOCATION
The World Heritage listed Blue Mountains is on Darug & Gandangara land, and is one of Australia’s most visited tourist destinations. Known as the ‘City in a National Park’ the Blue Mountains is a collection of villages along a long continuous ridgeline that have a unique character based on topography, climate, and settlement patterns. From the natural beauty of the landscape which encourages tourism and recreation, to the small village charm for weekend getaways, to the variety of artists, creatives and makers, the Blue Mountains is a diverse community. The event will be held in the beautiful Art Deco Everglades Gardens in Leura, which is part of the National Trust.

RAA events are open to associated disciplines and interested community members as well as RAA members.
