Phil Hayter's Illuminators
Event description
First brought into jazz as a 10 year old by Australian legend Bob Sedergreen, woodwind artist and composer Phil Hayter spent 16 years performing at Melbourne’s jazz venues, including Bird’s Basement, The JazzLab, Paris Cat Jazz Club, Bennett’s Lane Jazz Club and Dizzy’s Jazz Club and events such as the Melbourne International Jazz Festival and Stonnington International Jazz Festival. Phil relocated to the Sunshine Coast in 2023 and has since performed at Brisbane Jazz Club, DooBop Bar, Maroochydoore Jazz Collective, Hervey Bay Jazz Club and Hope Island Jazz Club.
Phil Hayter's Illuminators performs original jazz-hop funk alongside energetically swinging hard-bop standards and vulnerable ballads, Phil employs an array of woodwinds– three saxophones and flute. The focus is on deep grooves with exceptional interplay that brings as much fun as beauty into jazz, mixing the colours of jazz harmony with the energy of hip hop. Expect some risk taking on a sonic adventure by some of the Sunshine Coast’s best improvisers, with renown film composer and arranger on Denis Feletto on keyboards and rhythm section stalwarts Brendan Scully and Trent Bryson-Dean on double bass and drums.
