Some information about the Reserve:

Yalukit Willam is a beautiful wetland cared for by the Yalukit Willam Nature Association (YWNA) on Boonwurrung Bunurong Country.ย The wetland reserve has been carefully designed to foster biodiversity and wildlife and is a wonderful example of collaboration of different partners and grassroots community-led care.

Prior to colonisation, the area was characterised by aย coastal marsh ecosystem ofย meandering waterways, billabongs andย undulating topography. Recent history saw most remnant vegetation cleared and the siteย turned intoย a golf course.

The wetland in its current form is around 5 years old, and is already brimming with life.ย Wildlife is returning, including migratory and local wetland birdlife, native fish, a whole range of invertebrates, reptiles and amphibians. The wetland is now home to a significant population of endangered Growling Grass Frogs (Litoria raniformis), and thereโ€™s even been sightings of the critically endangered swift parrot (Lathamus discolor) at the Reserve.

Sustaining the return of wildlife to the area is a significant diversity of indigenous plants from a range of different habitats. YWNA collect seed and propagate on site, and regular Working Bees are open to anyone whoโ€™d like to join inโ€ฆ you can too!

On Saturday Feb 22nd, Draw Plants Together will host a 2-hour plant drawing workshop at the Reserve, following on from a YWNA Working Bee in the morning. Come and join the fun, connect with plants and get creative :)

Check out the YWNA wesbite.
