Plastic Country - A Film Screening

Australia loves being a winner. Punching above our weight. Per capita medal counts. Obliterating the Commonwealth Games. Underdogs and comeback kids suit our identity. So what do we do considering we generate the second highest rate of plastic person globally? Double down and aim for becoming number one, or walk into the proverbial room of mirrors and ask ourselves the questions that require honest answers about our consumption, our choices and the way we want to live.

The Plastic Country is this proverbial room of mirrors, and Finding Nature, together with Machine Vision AI, Vert Design, BC Consulting, SIX (Sustainable Investment Exchange), invite you to explore this dreadful reality with us. The Plastic Country is the latest film by waste advocate and ocean protection powerhouse Kal Glanznig. Kal is a young man on a mission to not only inform us all of what our increasingly plastic world looks like, but how it infects literally every part of our planet and our own bloodstreams.

The Plastic Country is the result of his quest to explore remote Yolŋu Country in East Arnhem Land, where Dhimurru Rangers are pulling ghost nets and packaging off sacred shoreline decades, into the wildlife hospitals where vets are removing the stuff from sick animals, to speaking directly with our elected officials in Parliament House. The film traces plastic through ecosystems, politics and bodies to reveal a story of how interconnected all life on our planet is as a result of plastic.

On the night we will watch the film together, explore real responses already in flight, commit to and take action together and raise money for Kal’s not for profit, Blue Minds.

Gus_tronomy will be on popcorn, we’ll have drinks for you and a few more surprises and prizes on the night.
