Poets@Stones: Queensland's boutique poetry series - live readings by local poets

The next in our series of curated poetry events is on Thursday 25 September, 6pm arrival for a 6.30 - 7:30pm event, including live readings by three local poets.

About Poets@Stones

Curated by renowned Queensland poet, Brett (B. R.) Dionysius, Poets@Stones is held on the last Thursday of each month, from January through to November.

Our featured Poets for this month are:

Alison Thompson is a poet and story writer based in the Northern Rivers Region of NSW. Her poems and stories have been published in Australia and overseas, including Griffith Review, Cathexis Northwest, Sky Island, The Delmarva Review, and Southerly. Alison won the Dangerously Poetic Poetry prize in 2011 (Byron Writers Festival) and has been previously shortlisted for the Bruce Dawe and Newcastle Poetry Prizes. She received a Highly Commended in the 2018 Bridport Poetry Prize (UK). She has two chapbooks out with PressPress – Slow Skipping (2008) and In A Day It Changes (2018) and her first full length collection is The Horizon Shifts Sideways, published by Puncher and Wattman in 2024. Philip Neilsen is a poet, author and editor who has published sixteen books. He teaches poetry writing at the University of Queensland. His sixth collection of poetry, Wildlife of Berlin was shortlisted for the 2019 Kenneth Slessor Prize in the NSW Premier’s Literary Awards. His poetry has been included in anthologies such as The Penguin Anthology of Australian Poetry; Australian Poetry Since 1788 and The Turnrow Anthology of Contemporary Australian Poetry. His awards include an Australian Notable Book Award, the Philip Bacon Ekphrasis Prize, and an Australia Council poetry fellowship.

Ray Liversidge has published three books of poetry: Oradour-sur-Glane published in 2017. A French/English version was published in 2019; no suspicious circumstances: portraits of poets (dead) and Obeying the Call. A book of poetry and flash fiction: …of a sudden published in 2023. A verse novel: The Barrier Range which was adapted for stage and performed as Seeking Fabled Waters at the 2010 Melbourne Writers Festival. A chapbook: The Divorce Papers. His poem ‘The lawn’ won the Bruce Dawe National Poetry Prize in 2010. His poetry has appeared in over 100 journals and anthologies here and in the US, Canada, the UK, Scotland, Ireland and Spain.
