Event description

The Adelaide to Port Adelaide Line opened for traffic on 21 April 1856. It marked the British Empire's first State-owned railway and was also the first steam traction railway built in South Australia.

In April 2026, we celebrate 170 years since the Adelaide to Port Adelaide train line began operations.
