Description

Postcards of the Port City: Sketching Workshop with Tessa Beale and Peter Woodward

Tessa Beale and Peter Woodward will guide you through drawing processes that help you respond to your surroundings. You'll draw from UDLA's central Fremantle balcony – with views over Cantonment Street, Market Street, and Fremantle Port – using simple techniques to observe and translate these views into postcard sketches. The focus will be on spontaneity and capturing character rather than perfection, making it suitable for beginners and experienced sketchers alike.

All materials provided, including snacks and a beverage.

The workshop will be held Sunday 18 Oct, 10.30am-12noon.

All money from ticket sales will be donated to Bush Heritage Australia

Bios:

Tessa Beale is engaged in a material practice. Using the handmade, her work investigates the potential of material properties to explore ideas of transformation working across the mediums of print, drawing, sculpture and photography. She currently works from her studio at Victoria Hall in Walyalup/Fremantle, having previously undertaken both solo and collaborative residencies at SIM in Reykjavik, Iceland, Fremantle Arts Centre and Midland Junction Arts Centre.

Peter Woodward is a landscape architect and urban designer at UDLA with over 30 years of experience. He has been sketching the built environment for decades – it’s not only his way of understanding his surroundings, but a crucial part of his design process.
