Perth Poetry Festival 2025

Grains of Sand

A Multicultural Soirée

Date: Saturday, 30 August 2025
Time: 5:00 pm – 6:30 pm
Venue: City of Perth Library, 573 Hay Street, Perth WA 6000

Poetry is a vessel that holds the essence of culture. It invites listeners in, quietly opening doors, setting the stage, harmonising voices, and making one feel at home.

Our multicultural poetry night returns with renewed power, guiding us through voices shaped by migration, memory, language, and resilience. This event weaves a vibrant tapestry of identities and lived experience, giving centre stage to powerful poetic expression from diverse communities.

Featuring:

  • Thuy On, accompanied by Nanci Nott, Dann Tozer, Xanthe Turner, and Zaedyn Turner.

  • Sher Ting Chim (Singapore/Victoria AU)

  • Lidya Pawestri (WA/Indonesia)

and a special feature:

The Writers’ Collective presents: More than a Lament

Five poets navigate the intersections of nation, gender and faith in a multi-voiced, multi-generational conversation:

  • Rashida Murphy

  • Asha Rajan

  • Andrew Sutherland

  • Marziya Mohammedali

  • Dureshawar Khan

Hosted by

Indrani Perera, a Sri Lankan/German/Australian poet based in Naarm (Melbourne), known for her narrative plainsong poetry and as the founder of Pocketry, the home of unheard voices.

This magical evening will touch on themes of migration, identity, language, heritage, cultural memory, and the universal longing for home.
