WA Poets Publishing presents the launch of two new poetry collections as part of Perth Poetry Festival 2025.
Toby Davidson – The Grand Reopening
The Grand Reopening is the third collection from the Eastern States-based WA poet Toby Davidson, described by David Malouf as "one of our most talented younger poets" and by Philip Salom as "vibrant and questioning." Published by Puncher & Wattmann, the book features praise from Anthony Lawrence, Kevin Hart, and Marcella Polain, who calls it a work “representing the world anew” that “crackles with intense, unpredictable energy.”
Eminent local poet Morgan Yasbincek will introduce and launch the collection, followed by a reading from the poet. The event marks a homecoming for Davidson, who left Perth in 2002 but continues to write of and to it. The book opens in the aftermath of pandemic isolation, moves outward into the wider world, and concludes with a surreal and visceral long-form sequence narrated by the poet’s own blood, recounting his life growing up in WA.
Deanne Leber – How to Throw Stones
How to Throw Stones is a collection of poems contemplating the end of the world, end of life, end of mental health and wellbeing, and the end destination on the CircleRoute. The poetry is infused with humour, resilience, hope and faith.
Deanne Leber’s dynamic performance skills will bring the collection to life. This performance of How to Throw Stones will serve as the catalyst for the launch of the accompanying chapbook.
Books will be available for purchase and signing at the event.
