Pre-Teen Drawing Class (Age 11-13)

These classes are designed to help students develop creative thought, inspire imagination, encourage self-expression and foster artistic potential.
What will be covered in this course?
Throughout the term, we discover the world of art through a variety of themes: landscape, portraiture, still life, figurative art and more. The students will explore a wide variety of drawing mediums such as charcoal, graphite, watercolours, oil & chalk pastels, collage and more. Children are encouraged to use their imagination to experiment with mediums to create unique pieces of art.
By the end of this course students will:
Through structured exercises students will have learnt foundational skills in drawing and have a sound understanding of the applications of various mediums.
They will be confident in using a range of mediums, techniques and approaching different subject matter.
They will have a portfolio of experiments and some noteworthy finished artworks.
THIS CLASS IS FOR: Children Aged 11-13yrs
LOCATION: Woolgoolga Gallery 73 Turon Parade Woolgoolga
TIME: Thursday 1:30-3:30pm
DURATION: 10 weeks
WHEN: 12th October - 14th December
TUTOR: Jess Portsmouth
COST: $200 per term (includes most materials)
Children will need to bring:
- A4 or A3 Visual Arts Diary
- A4 Display folder for paper handouts
- Pencil Case with: Scissors, eraser, pencil sharpener, ruler, glue stick, graphite sketching pencils in various grades
- Optional "Old clothes"
- Wear enclosed shoes
The teacher supplies all other art materials
ABOUT THE TUTOR
Jess is a professional artist, face painter and published author. She has exhibited and sold her works both locally and internationally. She studied a Bachelor of Fine Art and has a Diploma of Visual Arts at Tafe NSW.
She has been working with children and teaching the arts for over 5 years. She founded Woolgoolga Art School in 2023, is a professional face painter on the weekends and runs private Paint & Sip parties.
In her personal arts practise she primarily works with acrylic paints, graphite, charcoal & pastels, depicting the human form.
As a mental health advocate, Jess is passionate about the therapeutic benefits of art making. She has a certificate in Art Therapy and her approach to teaching is a mixture of technical tuition, encouraging creative experimentation and building self esteem.
Her classes focus on establishing the foundations of art theory and then applying that knowledge to artworks.
