Presencing My Body in Diverse Social Fields: Fall SPT/Social Justice Hub 2025-26
Event description
"Social Field awareness is the only paddle or rudder available to the small boat of our current situation as it moves out into the unknown." — Arawana Hayashi
"An engaged, active listener is also attuned to context, body language, and silences, which contain stores of meaning when conflict is in the air.” — Loretta Ross
As we work for positive social change we increasingly find ourselves needing to bridge gaping holes in the fabric of society. We must interact with people across difference, and we need the tools of Social Presencing Theater (SPT).
In particular, we need awareness of the Social Fields we find ourselves in.
And we need to stay grounded in our own bodies so that we can notice and respond to whatever quality of relationship arises in the present moment — rather than in some past moment of fear we're carrying around with us.
In this monthly group* we will hone our perceptive skills of watching, listening, and sensing as a means of advancing equity and social justice. We’ll explore simple movement practices that get us out of our heads and allow us more awareness of our own presence and of the collective energy of the assembled group, or “Social Field.” To get there we use the gentle movement methods of Arawana Hayashi's Social Presencing Theater (SPT), further informed by a range of trauma-sensitive somatic practices.
