Description

Join Foundations’ Products in Practice – practical CPD for Technical Officers delivering Disabled Facilities Grants.

In one focused day, you’ll take part in four short, hands-on sessions with suppliers, covering the products you specify every week. Each session is supported by a Foundations Regional Advisor, helping you link what you see to real cases and day-to-day decisions.

We’ll set the scene with what the Building Safety Act means for your role, then focus on practical learning you can apply straight away. The day counts towards CPD, with a simple quiz to help you reflect and evidence what you’ve learned.

Agenda

  • 8:45 am - 9:30 am

    Registration, coffee and networking

  • 9:30 am - 9:40 am

    Welcome and Introduction

This practical, CPD-focused event is designed to do two things: deepen technical knowledge of the products delegates work with every day, and connect that knowledge to the new Competency Framework that Foundations has developed to support Technical Officers in maintaining their competency.

  • 9:40 am - 9:50 am

The Building Safety Act and Why Competency Matters

The Building Safety Act 2022 places a clear duty on everyone working on buildings to be competent. For Technical Officers, this is not optional. It is a professional and legal responsibility.

  • 9:50 am - 10:30 am

Section 1: Core Competency A: Behavioural Competence

Covering three key areas: professional conduct and integrity, person-centred practice, and escalation.

  • 10:30 am - 11:15 am

Section 2: Core Competency B: Technical Competence

Looking at the four knowledge areas in the framework: construction types and building services; adaptation products and materials; key design considerations (drainage, waterproofing, ventilation, fire safety, structural support); and the risks that arise from poor design or installation.

  • 11:15 am - 12:00 pm

    Coffee and Networking

  • 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Section 3: Core Competency C – Legislative Competence

Walking through the key legislative areas in the framework: DFG legislation and discretionary powers; Building Regulations, planning and party wall requirements; landlord and leaseholder obligations; and CDM and Building Safety Act duties.

  • 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

    Lunch and Networking

  • 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Section 4: Core Competency D: Management Competence

An overview of the key management areas in the framework: the structured design process from survey to handover; record keeping standards; the golden thread under the Building Safety Act; and handover documentation.

  • 3:00 pm - 3:15 pm

    Support, Tools and Resources

  • 3:15 pm - 3:15 pm
