Domestic and Family Violence Awareness gathering 2023
Event description
The annual 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence is a critical international campaign commencing on November 25, recognized as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and concluding on December 10, Human Rights Day. This global initiative is dedicated to raising awareness and inciting action to end the scourge of gender-based violence.
This year, a landmark inaugural event will take place at the Sydney Town hall Square on the 1st of December, organised in partnership with the Rotary Clubs of Sydney and the NSW Police. This significant collaboration symbolises the solidarity and commitment of diverse organisations in the fight against domestic and family violence. Highlighting the day's events, the NSW Police Band will deliver a compelling performance, adding to the gravity and outreach of the occasion.
The program will also feature keynote speakers who are experts and leading voices in the field of domestic and family violence. They will provide insightful discourse on the issue, alongside valuable information and resources specifically tailored for survivors of domestic violence. Furthermore, community groups from various sectors are uniting to participate in this vital cause, demonstrating a collective stand against domestic and family violence.
The prevalence of domestic and family violence in New South Wales is alarming, underlining the importance of such advocacy events. Statistics indicate that many individuals, predominantly women and children, face the horrors of domestic violence within their households. These numbers not only emphasize the urgency of addressing this issue but also reaffirm the necessity for communities, organizations, and authorities like the Rotary Clubs of Sydney and the NSW Police to collaborate in providing a united front to combat and, eventually, eradicate this form of violence.
Through events like the one on December 1st, the campaign sheds light on the pressing need to support victims, educate communities, and enforce accountability for perpetrators, aiming towards a safe and harmonious society for all.
