PYAC2025 Songwriter Workshops - "I wrote a song based on your story"
Event description
Songwriting Session Challenge - Let's build the skills to write a song based off of an entry to the Randolph Stow Young Writers Awards.
Presented by local musicians Darcy Hay, Sarah O'Malley and Lee-Anne Taylor, these songwriting workshops are suitable for ages 12-17. All abilities will be supported to participate.
It's best to come to all sessions however we understand you may only be available to attend one or two. As we'd like to record a song at the end of the last session, please make sure you can join us on this date. (March 6).

From writers, to songwriters, to graphic designers, videographers and painters, the perpetual arts challenge is open to all creative youth of Jambinu, Geraldton in 2025.
The trigger for the challenge is a piece from the Randolph Stow young writers award. This written artwork will be used to inspire the next expression of creativity titled,
“I wrote a song based on your story”.
The challenge goes on to have a piece of artwork from the previous challenge inspire the next.
“I choreographed a dance to your song”,
“I painted a picture inspired by your dance”,
“I made a t-shirt design based off of your painting”,
“I made a short documentary about this perpetual arts challenge whilst wearing your t-shirt",
“I wrote a story about this whole challenge”.
Held over 9 months and aligned to existing community events, this program will offer facilitated workshops for participants to work on their inspired pieces under the tutelage of suitably qualified local mentors and an opportunity to perform their artwork at community events.
At the end of the challenge there will be a public celebration and exhibition of the inspired artworks.
This program of workshops is supported by the City of Greater Geraldton and Regional Arts WA 'Next Gen' project funding.
