FAQs

  • DO I NEED TO SIGN A WAIVER?

Yes - Safety first, fun second!

Each individual must complete their own Participant Registration Form prior to the class.

  • HOW TO GET THERE?

Where is it? Sukhari Muay Thai, 407 Plenty Road, Preston VIC 3072.

When should I arrive? Doors open at 10:15am — aim to arrive then, not at 10:30am. Class starts promptly.

Parking and transport? Street parking is available on and around Plenty Road. By train, Preston Station is nearby via the Mernda or Hurstbridge lines.

Accessible? Please be aware, to enter the gym you need to walk up stairs.

  • WHAT TO EXPECT DURING THE SESSION?

Do I need experience? None at all. Totally beginner-friendly.

Is it contact? No — all striking is on bags or pads only. No sparring, no mouthguard needed.

    What will I learn?

    • Basic stance and guard

    • Footwork and movement fundamentals

    • Straight punches (jab, cross)

    • Basic hooks (light introduction)

    • Basic kicks (if included, Muay Thai)

    • Simple pad work combinations

    • Safe partner drills and distance control

Will the pads or bag hurt when striking? Some light bruising can happen, especially the first time. Keep strikes controlled while you get comfortable with the movements. Go at your own pace — light, moderate, or just practise the techniques in the air (shadow boxing). No pressure at all.

  • WHAT TO BRING?

What should I wear? Comfortable gym gear is all you need — shorts, tights or trackpants all work. Most people opt for shorts for ease of movement but it's entirely your call. Please keep it appropriate as the space may be shared with kids.

Shoes? Wear shoes to get there and take them off before stepping on. As a general rule, barefoot only on the mats. Note, shoes must be worn to the bathroom — it's a hygiene thing.

What to bring? Water bottle, small towel, hand wraps if you have them. That's it.

  • EQUIPMENT & HAND WRAPS?

Are gloves provided? Yes — a limited number of communal gloves are available.

They're wiped down between use but please bear that in mind if you're particular about hygiene. BYO gloves are always welcome.

Do I need wraps? Not essential — but if training without them, ease off the power to protect your hands and wrists.

Don't know how to wrap? Come at 10:15am and we'll get you sorted before class.

Can I train with a mask? You're welcome to train in a face mask — just be aware that other participants may not be wearing one.

Is equipment cleaned? Yes — cleaning products are used to wipe down equipment. If you'd like to clean anything yourself before use, just ask and we'll point you in the right direction.

  • WHAT ARE THE FACILITIES?

Are there changing facilities? Please note, bathrooms are gendered and cubicles are available if you need to change.

That said, coming already in your training gear is the easiest option.

Is there water? Yes, there is a water fountain.

When to be Barefoot vs. Shoes? As a rule, barefoot on the mats, shoes to the bathroom — it's a hygiene thing.

Can I shower after class? We ask that everyone clears the space by 11:45am out of respect for the venue.

Will there be kids at the venue? Possibly — Sukhari Muay Thai is a family-friendly gym that runs classes for kids as well as adults.

Our session is 18+ but please be mindful that the space may be shared.

  • COSTS & TICKETS?

Where to buy tickets? Secure your spot via the Humanitix link on this page.

Can I bring cash? No — ticketing is handled through Humanitix in advance. No door sales.

Will prices lower? We’re starting with this setup and may refine it over time, including more accessible pricing as the community grows.

  • POST-CLASS CAFE HANGS?

A social catch-up after class? Yes! Join us for a casual café hang after class. The venue may change depending on the group.

Do I have to come? Not at all! The café hang is optional. Stay as long as you'd like, even if it's just for a quick hello.

  • WHAT IF I CAN'T MAKE IT?

Can't make it? No worries! Please cancel your booking as early as possible. Cancelling also gives someone on the wait-list the opportunity to join. If you're within our refund window, you'll receive a refund in line with our refund policy.

Will I miss out if I can't make every month?
Don't stress! Each session has a beginner-friendly focus, so you can join anytime. We'll build on the fundamentals, with options to challenge more experienced participants. We'll also recap key concepts through our Instagram Broadcast Channel.
