Qualitative Analysis: Positionality and Reflexivity with Dr Kennedy Borle
Description
Join us in November for an interactive workshop on positionality and reflexivity, as part of the Qualitative Data Analysis series.
Qualitative researchers do not enter the research process as neutral observers. Our identities, experiences, values and assumptions shape the questions we ask, the relationships we build, the interpretations we make, and the knowledge we produce. Developing a reflexive research practice requires ongoing attention to these influences throughout the research process.
In this session, Dr Kennedy Borle will explore the concepts of positionality and reflexivity, drawing on her experience as a genetic counsellor, researcher and educator. Participants will consider how their personal and professional identities shape their research and explore strategies for engaging in meaningful reflexive practice.
This workshop will be relevant to researchers across disciplines and career stages who are interested in conducting thoughtful, rigorous and reflexive qualitative research.
Learning Outcomes:
Describe the concepts of positionality and reflexivity and their role in qualitative research
Reflect on how personal, professional and social identities shape the research process
Identify strategies for incorporating reflexivity into research design, data collection and analysis
Critically examine the role of the researcher in knowledge production
