Queering the Script: An acting workshop for the LGBTQIA+ community
Event description
Are you an actor who identifies as part of the LGBTQIA+ community? Have you ever been to an acting workshop entirely for, and led by, members of the queer community? Join LGBTQIA+ actor and acting coach Matt Young (Heart of the Man, Gayby Baby, Up Your Bum No Babies) in a workshop designed as a safe and free space for queer creatives.
Matt Young is a LGBTQIA+ actor, and acting coach best known for playing gay theatre owner Joey in First Nation filmmaker David Cook’s Heart of the Man (Queer Screen Mardi Gras and Melbourne Queer Film Festivals), and as Graham’s Dad in the groundbreaking documentary Gayby Baby. He performed Up Your Bum, No Babies (Remembering Stories from the Gay Ghetto) for QTOPIA Sydney’s Pride Fest 2024, and Smiley, a gay rom-com from Spain for Brisbane Pride 2020. He was the Fiji location casting director for Netflix’s #blackAF and Hallmark’s Pearl in Paradise. Through Tukuna Acting Club, he was the national film acting trainer for Film Fiji, and has run workshops with Brisbane’s Factory Acting Studio, New Dream Productions, and the Vision Splendid Outback Film Festival.
