Reclaim the Void weaving afternoons

Price $10 – $31 AUD + BF Get tickets

Event description

Would you like to join the bold global cross-cultural Reclaim the Void project, weaving a rug to heal country?

Have you been thinking of joining a workshop but time got away from you? Now is your last chance before the project finishes!

At this unique workshop, make your heartfelt contribution by weaving a circular rug using a simple technique and upcycled cotton bed sheets on a loom, while connecting with others and enjoying light refreshments.

The project was conceived by artist Vivienne Robertson in response to pain expressed by Aboriginal Ngalia Elders in Leonora about environmental destruction on country. It reclaims the stories of impacted country by laying an artwork on country affected by mining.

Your rug will be one of 3,000 pieces in a giant textile artwork based on an original painting by passed First Nations artist DW, depicting country. By weaving together, the project brings together communities across Australia and beyond for a powerful act of reconciliation and healing.

You will also be invited to ‘share your story’ by contributing some words, photos or stories about your experience with the project. You may also label your rug to enable you to view it online along with any shared story, in amongst the other 3000 rugs which will make up the final installed artwork.
