"Fertile Common Ground" - restoring and strengthening relationships
Description
We desperately and urgently needs a restoration and strengthening of interdependent relationships as we evolve towards unification and wholeness through diversity.
Come along to the North Brighton Community Garden for a lunch prepared from Garden produce and learn about the importance of seasonality, circularity, simplicity, sustainability and healthy living.
Garry Goldsmith, a Narungga man, will present us with a range of First Nations perspectives including the importance of relationships with each other and with our natural world and universe. The harmful algal bloom deeply impacted the Narungga people and their cultural ties with the butterfish. In his capacity as co-Chair, Garry will update us on the newly formed Southern Australia Aboriginal Land and Sea Management Alliance and the importance of ecosystem restoration.
Sam Buxton Stewart, Urban Greening Officer, City of Holdfast Bay, will facilitate discussion around local biodiversity and ecosystem restoration/regeneration projects and how you can contribute and learn.
Emma Sandery will be on hand to facilitate discussion and offer practical tips on how to live more sustainably and within biophysical limits in our local communities.
A concluding Panel Q&A discussion will provide an opportunity for further exploration of these areas as well as other topics including but not limited to:
solar thermal cooking and recipes
the Johnson-Su bioreactor/composting
grafting techniques
seasonality-based local food growing and what's possible
worm farming
There will be an opportunity to participate in a preceding Community Planting event in the adjacent biodiversity garden on the morning of the event, subject to availability - register here.
