Restoring our Birrarung Red Gum Forests

Join two leading experts for a guided walk around the beautifully restored Phillips Fox Billabong and discover the challenges and successes of restoring the iconic River Red Gum forests along the Birrarung.

Led by renowned arborist Dr Greg Moore and Rebecca Penrose, who leads Melbourne Water's Lower Birrarung restoration program, this fascinating walk explores the ecological importance of River Red Gum forests and the work being undertaken to protect and restore these vital ecosystems.

As you walk through the landscape, you'll learn about the many opportunities and challenges involved in restoring river environments, examine what restoration techniques have been successful, and discuss the lessons learned along the way.

Whether you're passionate about conservation, interested in urban ecology or simply curious about the future of the Birrarung, this is a unique opportunity to hear directly from two of Victoria's leading voices in environmental restoration.

Come along, ask questions and discover how healthy River Red Gum forests help create a healthier Birrarung for people and wildlife alike.

The walk follows natural bush trails that are uneven and rough underfoot in some sections. Participants should be comfortable walking on unformed terrain and wear sturdy, enclosed footwear.
