Roll For It 2025

A day of tabletop gaming at Freo Town Hall

Whether you’re a seasoned tableflipper or you’ve never rolled a d20 before…

… tabletop gaming has never been as important (or as big) as it is today.

And that’s because we, as a society, are realising we can’t just live by the light of our phones. We’ve got to get in front of real people, make real connections, and really, truly laugh.

The dice, the cards, the minis that take 6 months to paint — these are the tools with which we tell our shared stories. Stories of spectacular victory, crushing defeat, and total buffoonery. Stories in which lifelong friendships are forged.

But life is hectic, and it can sometimes feel impossible to get even a small group together to roll dice and slap cards.

That’s why we made Tabletop Freo. And that’s why we’re working so hard to make this event as big and fun as possible.

Roll For It is a celebration of nerd culture in Fremantle

It’s a rallying cry to show all the tabletop gaming nerds who have yet to come out of the woodwork that there is a home for them here.

It’s a call out to you, dear friend.

Whatever your game, whatever your story, the day is for you.

So what’s actually happening?

Basically, rock up at Freo Town Hall between 9 AM and 5 PM on Saturday the 10th of May to play some tabletop games.

We’re dividing the hall into 4 main gaming zones:

----

🎲 THE BOARD GAME ZONE 🎲

12 board game hosts will be running a variety of board games here throughout the day. Just look for a game that seems cool and start playing!

We are still looking for people to run board games on the day. Email us at admin@tabletopfreo.com.au if you're keen!

What you need to bring:

Nothing. But feel free to bring your favourite board game in case there’s a free table and you want to play it.

----

🧙 THE MTG ZONE 🧙

People will be playing MTG casually all day, and our team will be there to teach you the game if you haven’t played before.

There will also be a MHII draft between 10 am and 3 pm (this is a paid, ticketed add-on).

What you need to bring:

If you’re an experienced player, bring your decks (we play lots of EDH). For the newbies, we have everything you need.

----

💀 THE WARHAMMER ZONE 💀

People will be playing Warhammer Kill Team casually all day. Our team will also be teaching people the basics of Kill Team and how to paint minis.

What you need to bring:

If you've got one, bring your Kill Team. If you’re a newbie, you don’t need to bring anything.

----

🐲 THE D&D ZONE 🐲

We'll be running 1-hour and 2-hour adventures for new and experienced players all throughout the day. These are free, but you've got to reserve a spot!

What you need to bring:

Nothing. We'll have dice and character sheets for you.

----

Please note: If we get super busy, we'll set time limits for board games, casual MTG games, and Warhammer games. That way, if you have to wait a little while to join in, you'll at least know how long you'll have to wait.

Beyond actual gaming, there will be one small stalls where you can buy tabletop-related goodies. But that is by no means the focus of the day.

There will also be prizes!

The 3 prize packs are worth ~$200 each, and we'll announce one winner at 12 PM, one at 2 PM, and one at 4 PM on the day. Expect nerdy prizes related to the games we're playing on the day. If you aren’t there when your name is called, we’ll draw another name from the hat and you'll unfortunately miss out.

Who's hosting this?

We’re Tabletop Freo, a community for tabletop gaming in the greatest town on Earth.

FAQs

Who is welcome?

Everyone. This is an all ages event for everyone.

Will there be food and drinks?

Nope, to keep things simple, we are not selling anything edible or drinkable. However, there are a billion vendors at which you can acquire sustenance just outside the hall, and you can eat and drink inside the hall. But maybe don't order tacos or a laksa, ya feel?

Will there be water?

Water won't be supplied at the event, but you can fill up a water bottle at the fountain in Walyalup Koort or the one in Fremantle Library.

What amenities are there?

The Town Hall has bathrooms with toilets, accessible toilets, and changing places. So does Fremantle Library.

Where does the money from ticket sales and donations go?

To cover our costs for the event! Right now, we're about $5k in the hole. If your donations (paired with anything we get from our sponsors) exceed that figure, the rest will go towards Tabletop Freo's next event.

How do I get to the Town Hall?

If you're taking the train, it's about 500m (a 7-ish-minute walk) from Fremantle Station.

How accessible is the Town Hall?

The entire event will run on the ground floor. There are bathrooms with accessible toilets and changing places. There is ACROD parking just outside the hall, too. Here's an accessibility map for Freo.

Photos

Photos will be taken at the event and used for TTF and the and City of Fremantle's marketing and media channels during and post event. Please make an event coordinator aware if you do not want your photo taken.
