Serene Forest Therapy invites you to step into the calming green of Centennial Park and experience the mental and physical benefits of spending time amongst the trees.

Forest Therapy, is an evidence based preventative health practise inspired by Shinrin-Yoku (Japanese for forest bathing). With its series of sensory and creative activities this gentle guided walk will encourage slowing down, de-stressing and re-connecting with nature.

Forest Therapy is beneficial for both your mind and body. Research reveals direct benefits include lowering of blood pressure, reduced levels of the stress hormone (cortisol), reduced anxiety, increased positive mood, enhanced energy levels and better concentration.

Starting in an open grassed area we will wander into a forest of pine-trees, paper-barks and a rare stand of Rose Gums taking our time to engage with the sights, sounds, scents and textures of our forest surroundings. The walk is leisurely, approximately 1 km long and will finish with a Tea Ceremony, including light refreshments.

Where: Centennial Park, Paddington NSW 2021 (between Carrington Drive and Grand Drive, just south of Oxford St)

Meet: Midway between the Federation Pavilion and the Public Toilets, opposite the Grand Drive. Look out for the Forest Therapy Guides wearing green tops.

Time: 9.30am – 12.30pm (please arrive 15 minutes prior to the start-time)

Transport: Car Parking on Grand Drive and Carrington Drive. Buses run along Lang Road and Oxford Street see Transport NSW Trip Planner


Places are limited so a booking is required.

Good to know

  • This is a slow walk with some gentle inclines so no special fitness is required.
  • The Forest Therapy walk is suitable for anyone 13 years and over.
  • No pets allowed. The location is an area popular with dog walkers so we may encounter dogs on the trail.
  • The event will go ahead in rainy weather. However if we need to cancel due to severe weather (thunder storms, bush fires or notifications from park authorities) participants will be notified the evening prior.
  • You will be requested to fill out a couple of forms; a Participant Agreement and a Post-Walk Evaluation.

What to Wear/Bring

  • Dress appropriately for the weather. Sturdy shoes, comfortable clothes, layers work best, and a rainproof outer layer, as needed.
  • We recommend you wear a hat.
  • Bring water and any personal medications.
