Rust, Layer, Embellish 2 Day Workshop

    Event description

Rusting is a unique method of surface decoration that can be used on paper, cloth and canvas to convey a sense of weathered, rustic and decayed processes. It can be applied to any type of artwork, including painting, dyeing, journaling, book making, stitching, garment making, wall-hangings, and so on.

While rust usually creates lovely browns, other colours – such as reds, oranges, blues, greys and purplish hues - can be achieved, depending on the types of substrates and mordants used and by the layering of rust marks.

In this workshop, mixed media/textile artist Grace Cross will share her knowledge and experience of multiple rusting techniques. You will experiment and build up a collection of samples using a variety of rust print and dye techniques on paper, silk and canvas including rust printing and dyeing, rust and eco bundling, painting, tearing, layering, collaging, embellishing, and stitching. On the second half of day 2, you will start an artwork relevant to your own unique art journey and preferred artform: an artist book, perhaps, or a collage, stitched wall piece, or canvas painting.
