SCRAP Workshop: Intro to Vintage Sewing Machines: Use & Maintenance | Ages 16+
Event description
Prerequisite: None, though it will be helpful to have some familiarity with home sewing machine anatomy / terminology (e.g. "presser foot," "pedal," "bobbin case").
SCRAP Workshop: Intro to Vintage Sewing Machines: Use & Maintenance!
This skill-building workshop is for folks who are interested in owning (or already own) a vintage, non-computerized, mechanical sewing machine (older than 1985), and are equally interested to learn the basic maintenance and mechanics of these machines!
In this workshop, we will:
Walk through the core anatomy and functions of a fully mechanical sewing machine
Practice proper oiling and cleaning methods
Discuss common issues with mechanical machines and how to troubleshoot them
Properly load a side-load bobbin
Practice sewing basic stitches and operating a mechanical machine
Youโll learn how to keep these sturdy, powerful machines going throughout your lifetime and into the next! This is not a project-based class, but rather a space for learning, testing, and exploration.
Sewing nerd Kate will show you how to use and maintain vintage Kenmore sewing machines, and apply that knowledge to similar machines. And a bonus perk... these machines will be for sale at the end of class for around $100 per machine! Walk out with your own beautiful new (old) Kenmore!
Forย $40,ย you'll get 3 hours of hands-on instruction.
All toolsย and materialsย providedย |ย Ages 16+ (parents must purchase for their children)
