Seaweed Science Virtual Excursion - Homeschool Session

This event has passed Get tickets

Event description

With 80% of Australians living on the coast, for many of us seaweeds are one of our neighbours! These incredible marine algae are vital to the survival of life on earth, helping produce up to 70 percent of the oxygen in our atmosphere and storing a quarter of the worlds carbon. In this virtual session, students will work with a Gardens educator to learn all about local seaweed species. By classifying and discovering how this living organism grows, survives and reproduces in its aquatic home, students will be inspired to take action and help our coastal ocean habitats!

Students will

    • Group and classify seaweed
    • Discover the unique adaptations and lifecycles of a local seaweed species
    • Build scientific skills by accurately creating a Herbarium specimen and communicating their findings through formal representation
    • Consider how they can support the survival of seaweeds in their area
