Seeking the Moytj, native water rat, Workshop
Description
Learn about and join in spotting the elusive native water-rat Moytj (pron. moi-itch), reflecting on its cultural connect to Menang people.
Learn how to report sightings of both Moytj and Ngwayir (pron. na-wa-ear) the Western ringtail possum.
Learn about the baseline survey being carried out for these 2 significant fauna species as part of the Community-led Restoration of King River Warracoolyup project.
Agenda for the evening is:
- Cultural connections to the moytj with Vernice Gillies, Noongar Elder
- Biology and habit of the moytj and ngwayir with Sandra Gilfillan, local fauna consultant
- Supper
- Walk to river; quiet observation for moytj
- Return walk and chance to observe ngwayir
A complimentary light supper will be provided so please note any dietary requirements at ticketing.
Wear suitable outdoors attire and sturdy shoes. Bring along a small torch if possible, some will be available on the evening to borrow.
