Description

Learn from an experienced editor how to fire up your expression, improve literary professionalism and stand out from the crowd.

Experienced editor and author Associate Professor Sally Breen teaches you how to fire up expression, master literary professionalism and make your work stand out. Participants will gain insider knowledge on what editors look for and how to improve their writing - on both a micro and macro level - to enhance publication success.

 

Learning outcomes

As part of this workshop, participants will:

  • Understand the difference between structural and copy editing and how to apply this knowledge

  • Learn the do's and don'ts in line-level expression

  • Apply editorial skill to your work live, during the workshop

  • Learn how to present pitches and documents professionally

 

Format

This is a hybrid workshop with a focus on editing; it will be held in-person at State Library of Queensland and live streamed to an online audience via Zoom. This workshop is suitable for writers of all levels and backgrounds.

About Sally

Associate Professor in Creative Writing at Griffith University and Executive Director of Asia Pacific Writers and Translators (APWT) Sally Breen is the author of grunge memoir The Casuals and the neo-noir novel Atomic City. Her short form work has been published widely. Sally has worked as Associate Editor of Griffith Review and edited special editions of various journals and collections. www.sallybreen.com.au.
