Sensing Country #1 A Walk with Murrundindi
Event description
‘Sensing Country’ with Murrundindi
Listen to Country; Listen to Elders
What do First Nations people mean when they say, ‘Listen to Country’ and ‘Care for Country’?
How can we be more attentive to the places we live and walk upon?
You are invited to join us on this sensory, listening experience.
Artist collective BodyPlaceProject is hosting a series of walks with Wurundjeri elders and cultural knowledge holders exploring what it means to ‘listen to Country’.
These guided experiential walks are for artists and performers interested in responding to place, as well as interested community members keen to learn more about Indigenous knowledge, culture, and Country.
BodyPlaceProject hopes to deepen understandings of observing, reading or ‘sensing’ the Country, from the perspectives of First Nations knowledge holders whose ancestors have cared for these lands and waters over millennia. We consider this vital education for everyone living here today.
For our first Sensing Country walk we are thrilled to be guided by Ngurungaeta (Head Man) of the Wurundjeri people, Murrundindi. Murrundindi is an esteemed and well-loved cultural educator who has worked over many years in Corhanwarrabul (Dandenong Ranges).
At: Grants Picnic Ground, Kallista, Corhanwarrabul (Dandenong Ranges)
On: Sunday 3rd December 2023, 3.30-5.30pm.
Children are welcome but please be aware they will need to be quiet and listen too!
Sensing Country is the first phase of BodyPlaceProject’s 4-year program ‘Making Sense of Place’ in partnership with Yarra Ranges Council.
