Sensing Country Walk with Brooke Wandin
Event description
You are invited to join us for a Sensing Country experience at Badger Weir with respected Wurundjeri Knowledge Holder, Brooke Wandin.
The Sensing Country walks are intended for artists and performers interested in responding to place, as well as community members keen to learn about First Nations culture, and how we can be more attentive to the places we live and walk upon.
Brooke Wandin is a Wurundjeri woman, an artist, an educator, and a language worker. She looks for projects and opportunities that promote cultural understanding throughout Wurundjeri Country. These learnings are not static or linear. When participating in creative projects she can consolidate her understanding about her Ancestors and Country; therefore, learning and growing herself, strengthening her identity. She continues the reciprocal relationship between Country and its peoples that has existed here since time began. These interactions are always happening, in the here and now.
The walk will take around 2 hours on varied terrain. Please dress for the weather and wear suitable walking shoes. Expect damp ground underfoot. Bring water, snacks and personal needs. We will proceed unless the weather forecasts hazardous conditions (in which case we will be in touch and try to reschedule).
Booking is essential and places are strictly limited. If your plans change and you can't join us, please let us know so we can give your highly coveted spot to someone else!
BodyPlaceProject is an artist collective with deep and ongoing interests in creative and experiential relationships to place, site and Country. Sensing Country is the first phase of BodyPlaceProject's program 'Making Sense of Place' in partnership with Yarra Ranges Council. Our current project On Country/In Residence is also proudly supported by Creative Australia.
