Event description

BodyPlaceProject is excited to announce the next Sensing Country walk will be led by respected Wurundjeri knowledge holders, Uncle Dave Wandin and Darren Wandin at Coranderrk, Healesville, on Sat 18th May at 10am-1pm.

Uncle Dave Wandin is an esteemed Wurundjeri elder with extensive knowledge of Country, specialising in firestick practices. He and his son Darren Wandin have ancestral ties to the historic Coranderrk Aboriginal mission, and together with other family members, are regenerating the farmland using traditional approaches to caring for Country. They will take us on a sensory walk around the Coranderrk property sharing ways of ‘listening to Country’ or reading the land.

The walk will take around 3 hours on varied terrain. Please dress for the weather and wear suitable walking shoes. Bring water, snacks and personal needs.

BodyPlaceProject is an artist collective hosting a series of walks with Wurundjeri elders and knowledge holders exploring what it means to ‘listen to Country’. These guided experiential walks are for artists and performers interested in responding to place, as well as community members keen to learn about First Nations culture, and how we can be more attentive to the places we live and walk upon.

Children are welcome but they will also need to walk for 3 hours and listen quietly to our guides and to Country!

Sensing Country is the first phase of BodyPlaceProject's program 'Making Sense of Place' in partnership with Yarra Ranges Council.

This is a free event, proudly supported by Yarra Ranges Council.
