Shiitake mushroom workshop at Mirboo
Event description
This workshop will cover all you need to know to grow your own
shiitake mushrooms on hardwood logs at home. Shiitake mushrooms are a
valuable and healthy addition to your diet, being highly valued by many
ancient cultures. They retail for just under $70.00 a kilogram for fresh
produce in the local supermarket. Just one flush of mushrooms on your
inoculated log can yield 1 to 2 kilograms of fruit, are superior to
supermarket mushrooms and the log can keep yielding for several years.
In
this workshop you will learn how to inoculate a log with shiitake
spawn, how to care for your log, when and how to initiate fruiting.
The Shiitake Workshop will be run @ 20CCR which is a Permaculture designed property on 6 acres in Mirboo, South Gippsland.
Cost is $70 per person and is limited to 20 people
This includes:
-A presentation on how to inoculate, care for and grow shiitake mushrooms on logs
-A demonstration on how to inoculate logs with shiitake mycelium
Then you will be invited to create your own inoculated log to take home, under supervision and provided with the following:
-A one metre pre cut hardwood log.
-20-25 mycelium inoculated dowels to inoculate your log
-wax to seal the log
BYO cordless drill if you have one however a few drills will be available on the day
If
you are not interested in creating your own shiitake log to take home
but still want the information, the pricing will be $40 per person
This includes:
-A presentation on how to inoculate, care for and grow shiitake mushrooms on logs
-A demonstration on how to inoculate logs
Afternoon tea will be provided.
