Day 1: Introduction to Health Economic Evaluation

Overview: Dive into the fundamentals of health economic evaluation. This full-day course covers key concepts for evaluating the costs and outcomes of healthcare interventions and programs, and how this information informs policy decisions.

Understand what economic evaluation is, why we do it, and how it is used in policy.
Explore concepts like cost-effectiveness, utilities, quality adjusted life years (QALY), incremental cost-effectiveness ratios (ICERs), perspectives, discounting, and opportunity cost.

Days 2 & 3: Advanced Health Economic Modelling

Overview: Associate Professor Mike Paulden (University of Alberta) brings his expertise to Macquarie University in this hands-on, two-day course. Learn to construct efficient and transparent health economic models.

Highlights:

Understand when to do economic modelling.
Learn how to build models using Excel and statistical programming languages like R, Python, and Julia with practical exercises.
Explore state transition models, dynamic arrays, extrapolation and sensitivity analysis.
