Event description

Leith Maddock and Michele Elliot return to Stackwood for a contemplative workshop in a supportive space that explores the tradition of shroud-making and opens up conversations around death and dying.

Shrouds have played an important role in caring for the dead across time. The washing and wrapping of the body is often the last act of care given to a person before they are farewelled.

The day will consist of supported discussion and reflection around end-of-life care, give attention to grief, to celebration and to ‘going-away’ outfits. Working with natural materials, we will guide you through the planning and design of a simple shroud and provide hands-on sewing instruction, embellishments, embroidery and practical tips. Whether you wish to make your own shroud, for a particular person or a pet, this workshop will support you to create a bespoke cloth with intention and care.

Fee includes some materials (threads, needles, pins and tools). Participants to bring their own fabric/cloth.

A comprehensive list of materials will be sent to you upon registration.
