Simurgh Ensemble
Event description
Simurgh is a Christchurch-based fusion ensemble of traditional instruments from Iran, Afghanistan, Turkey, India, and the Arabic world.
The group was born out of the collaboration between multi-instrumentalists Esmail Fathi, Liam Oliver, Nelson & Pragunya Myers-Daly, as well as other local musicians and singers experienced in these rich music traditions.
Esmail and Liam are known for co-founding the eponymous Simurgh Music School, Aotearoaâs first organization aimed to teach the performing arts from Persia and surrounding regions. Nelson and Pragunya are an accomplished father and son duo in their own right, known for their meditative and mystical work as Monk Party.
In this performance you will hear a wide range of instruments such as Oud, Tar, Setar, Rabab, Saz, Bansuri, Riq, Daf, Tonbak, and maybe more!
