Stories have always helped people survive loss, make meaning from chaos, laugh in the dark, and imagine a way forward when no road can yet be seen. Small Magics – Story Medicine for the Carer Journey emerges from that ancient knowing, and from a very contemporary kind of courage: the courage of families and carers who, amid the demands of supporting someone challenged by mental health and substance use, chose to make space for themselves.

This courageous collection of stories, poetry, and original artworks by families and carers carries the spirit of honesty, creativity, humour and wisdom. Small Magics speaks not only of hardship, but of resourcefulness. Not only of burden, but of beauty. Not only of caring for others, but of reclaiming care for the self.
