Want to start using social media for advocacy, but not sure where to begin?
JFA Purple Orange is delivering a series of digital skills workshops for people with disability, funded through the South Australian Government’s Digital Inclusion grants program.
This free online workshop is for people with disability who want to learn the basics of social media and how to stay safe online. Whether you’re new to social media or already use it a little, this session will help you build your confidence and understanding in a welcoming, inclusive space.
This is Workshop 1 of our Series 1 'Social Media for Advocacy and Storytelling' workshops.
What we’ll cover:
What social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, X and LinkedIn are used for
What hashtags, tags, likes and shares mean
What an algorithm is and how it affects what you see
How to protect your privacy and know what not to share
What to do if something goes wrong - and where to get support
Tips for avoiding overwhelm and managing your feed and notifications
This workshop is for people with disability of all experience levels.

You’re welcome to register for any sessions that interest you — no experience required. You will need to register separately for our other workshops. Visit our workshop series page.
You do not have to participate in every workshop in the series, only those you are interested in. The workshops will be mostly online, with some in-person events.

This workshop includes a PowerPoint presentation, videos, and group discussions. When you register, please let us know if you have any learning/accessibility requirements to participate in these activities (E.g. hearing impairment, dyslexia, etc)

You can participate in a way that works for you — speak, use chat or just listen
The session will be recorded and shared with participants
