Workshop 2: Advocates, Storytelling and Creating Content

Want to grow your confidence as a digital advocate and learn how to tell your story online?

JFA Purple Orange is delivering a series of digital skills workshops for people with disability, funded through the South Australian Government’s Digital Inclusion grants program.

This free online workshop is for people with disability who want to explore how to create personal, engaging content for social media. Whether you’re just starting or already post online, this session will support you to build your skills, find your style, and connect with others.

This is Workshop 2 of our Series 1 Social Media for Advocacy and Storytelling' workshops.

What we’ll cover:

• Inspiring examples of disability advocates using social media well

• How to share your lived experience without needing to over-share

• Tips for writing strong personal posts

• Easy ways to create videos or images that feel real

• Managing your energy and boundaries as an online advocate

• Why being yourself helps you connect with others

This workshop is for people with disability of all experience levels.

Registrations for this event close at midnight on Sunday 12 October, 2025.

You're welcome to attend only one or both workshops.

Digital Skills Workshops

Other workshops series will cover:

• Series 2, Workshops 1-3: Creating your own vox pop video (registrations open from the end of September)

• Series 3, Workshops 1 and 2: Creating or updating a professional LinkedIn profile (registrations open from mid-October)

You’re welcome to register for any sessions that interest you — no experience required. You will need to register separately for our other workshops. Visit our workshop series page.

You do not have to participate in every workshop in the series, only those you are interested in. The workshops will be mostly online, with some in-person events.

Accessibility:

• This workshop includes a PowerPoint presentation, videos, and group discussions. When you register, please let us know if you have any learning/accessibility requirements to participate in these activities (E.g. hearing impairment, dyslexia, etc)

• Presentations and resources will be shared ahead of time

• Live Zoom session with accessibility features

• You can participate in a way that works for you - speak, use chat or just listen

• The session will be recorded and shared with participants

• You'll be asked about your access needs when registering
