Event description

Join us for an evening of research, reflection and conversation as we hear from Louella Michaels’ into The Noticeboard's recent inquiry into the state of critical arts infrastructure in Magandjin (Brisbane).

This event draws on Louella’s research into the conditions that shape contemporary arts practice and cultural work, mapping where support systems exist, where they are missing, and what is needed for a more sustainable and equitable future for artists and arts workers in the region. More details here.

About the facilitator

Louella Michael is a Meanjin (Brisbane) based artist working primarily with interactive and kinetic sculpture. Working at the intersection between craft, art and technology Michael explores how the virtual has fractured and reframed our understanding and interactions with space, self and community.

In November 2024 she founded The Noticeboard and launched it online in February of this year with the help of her sibling. The Noticeboard is an online guide and archive of art action in Brisbane and the greater south east including exhibitions, events, workshops, talks, performances and more. The aim of The Noticeboard is to make emerging and independent art more accessible to everyone.

The conversation will be followed by a Q&A.

Free with RSVP. Space is limited, early booking is encouraged.

ACCESSIBILITY: The gallery is wheelchair accessible from the Brunswick St entrance. Please note due to current building works at the Judith Wright Arts Centre, the passenger lift is not usable. Bathrooms can be accessed from the Level 1 courtyard entrance of the Judith Wright Arts Centre.
