Stitch & Still: Slow Stitching at Monsalvat (Oct)
Description
Stitch & Still: Slow Stitching at Montsalvat
Set within the beautiful surrounds of the Montsalvat Artist Community, this gentle three-hour workshop is an invitation to slow down, work with your hands and discover the pleasure of simple hand stitching.
Using a thoughtfully curated collection of vintage, reclaimed and new fabrics and threads, Rachel will guide you through colour, composition and simple straight-stitch techniques to begin creating your own one-of-a-kind piece of textile art.
No previous stitching experience is needed. The emphasis is not on perfection or finishing quickly, but on taking time to become absorbed in the process of making, choosing fabrics, exploring colour and texture, and enjoying the rhythm of stitch.
Everything you need will be provided, including a beautiful kit of fabrics and threads to work with and take home. You are also very welcome to bring any special pieces of fabric you would like to incorporate into your work.
Tea, coffee and a delicious morning or afternoon tea will be provided as we stitch together in relaxed company.
Hand stitching takes time, and you may not complete your piece during the workshop and that’s perfectly okay. You’ll leave with the skills, materials and inspiration to continue stitching at home.
Suitable for complete beginners and experienced stitchers alike.
