Story Nights - Women's Storytelling - McKinnon
Event description
An in-person Storytelling Night for Women
Tuesday 10 October 2023
Story Nights is a place to share true stories of lived experiences, to speak and be witnessed, to listen and be entertained, and feel a deeper sense of connection to our lives and each other.
This is an open invitation to share a true story about something that happened to you, spoken without notes, within a time-limit of up to 10 minutes. There's a theme to inspire, and all types of stories are welcome. Light and breezy, funny and uplifting, sad or unexpected, heavy and dark. There's space for them all, because your stories matter.
Very often in today’s world there isn’t acknowledgment for the things women have achieved or the road we’ve travelled. Sharing your story is a gift to the listeners, but also a gift to yourself. In sharing our stories, we validate our lives and who we are. Our history. Our humanness.
Theme for October: Fear
From butterflies to panic and everything in between, what makes you worry, shake or cry out for your mum? Bring us a story of the time you needed someone to check under the bed or you were living a nightmare. Tell us about your terrifying bank statements or fear of rabid dogs, aging, flying, dentists, spiders… share how you attempted to avoid your scary thing or how you stared it down and lived to tell the tale. We’ll be holding our breath in anticipation!
Date: Tuesday 12 September
Time: 7.30pm–10:00pm (doors open from 7pm)
Arrive at the function room anytime from 7pm, buy a drink at the bar, have a chat, and then be ready to settle in by 7.30pm when the stories will begin! If you'd like to have a meal on the night, please allow time to order and eat your meal in the bistro before coming to the function room for the 7:30pm start.
Venue: McKinnon Hotel, 251 McKinnon Road, McKinnon
There's no requirement to tell a story, in fact, listeners are needed just as much as storytellers. If your story has no connection to the theme, you will be welcome to share it anyway. The theme is intended to inspire and help you find your story, not hold you back! It's the storytellers that make the event what it is, so if you're on the fence, I invite you to lean in, be brave, and share.
We’re so looking forward to seeing you and hearing your story!
