Strive for Better
Event description
Fair Opportunity Hiring (or Fair Chance Hiring) initiatives aimed at helping justice-involved individuals can offer significant opportunities for employees and employers alike. By tapping into this overlooked workforce, businesses can not only meet ongoing workforce needs, but also use their resources and operations to be a force for good in society.
Join us on September 21st for our “Strive for Better” event as we come together to celebrate pioneers in the Fair Opportunity Hiring movement, hear from Breakthrough participants on the power of employment in a successful reentry, and learn more about how you or your business can get started down the path to becoming a Fair Opportunity employer and enhance your DE&I efforts.
Checkr will also be receiving an award honoring their work in the Fair Chance Hiring field, to be presented by a special guest! Please RSVP no later than Friday, September 15th.
- In the United States, roughly 70 million people have an arrest or conviction record, and more than 600,000 individuals are released from jail each year. That’s 600,000 people who want to rebuild their lives- in which meaningful employment plays an enormous role.
- The unemployment rate for justice-involved individuals stands at 27%, higher than the unemployment rate during the Great Depression. In fact, economists estimate that the Gross Domestic Product (G.D.P.) is reduced between $78 billion and $87 billion due to excluding formerly incarcerated job seekers from the workforce.
- Society only gains when justice-involved individuals are connected to employment opportunities, from reducing recidivism to the continued development of our human capital.
