Call of the Void is a play about a not-so-unfamiliar version of Australia, where in the context of endless bushfires, floods, inadequate leadership, and a surreal weather condition known as the ‘Static’, people are getting really sick of hearing bad news. So, when word spreads about an elderly man falling to his death, Australians start asking themselves: “How much do I really care?” As feelings of apathy rise across Australia, so does the number of “zombies” – people who have stopped caring to the point of surrendering their own humanity. We follow Kaycee, a policewoman, and the people around her, as they try to make sense of their lives and responsibilities in the face of the apocalypse.
