Support Trans Young People's Access to Hormone Blockers Workshop
Event description
Join us for an informational workshop around gender affirming healthcare and the role of hormone medication!
We will be helping you understand the use of hormone blockers in gender affirming healthcare. Then with that understanding we will be going through the submission form to Manatū Hauora (Ministry of Health) and give you the tools to help voice your opposition to further restrictions to gender affirming care.
When: 11.30am-1.30pm, Monday 13 January 2024
Where: Tūranga, 60 Cathedral Square, Christchurch Central City
Who: Younger people, aged 14-35 years. Who would like support to understand how hormone blockers are used in gender affirming healthcare for young people and/or would like support to do a submission to Manatū Hauora (Ministry of Health).
What: Hear from long time gender affirming healthcare advocates Cooper Sides and Eliot Forrest on lived experience dealing with accessing this healthcare, and what it means for those within the community.
Why this matters:
Recently, Manatū Hauora (Ministry of Health) opened consultation on the accessibility of hormone blocker medication in relation to gender affirming healthcare. We have seen what can happen when the right to access gender affirming healthcare is turned into a moral panic, like in the United States or the United Kingdom! So it's more important than ever to be aware of what these medications and procedures do, and to avoid the wealth of misinformation floating around about them!
The submissions can be completed on the Manatū Hauora website, however we strongly recommend engaging with a guide from the community before submitting! InsideOut have a fantastic Submission Guide available online: https://insideout.org.nz/submi...
All transgender affirming people are welcome—no formal experience needed!
