Sustainable Cities: Circular Economy - AlterCOP 30 Day 2
Event description
Co-founded by The Matcha Initiative and The Transmutation Principle, AlterCOP Summits aim to keep corporate and the public informed of COP proceedings and outcomes, facilitate discourse and knowledge learning on corporate sustainability in a localised context, foster collaboration among various actors (professionals, academics, youth, NPOs, community groups, and policymakers) and inspire action.
As Australia prepares to potentially host COP31, we have a unique opportunity and responsibility to open up climate dialogue to all and show that local actions to mitigate and adapt to climate change are already happening across different communities.
Running alongside the United Nations (UN) COP30 agenda, the four-day event will foster grassroots ownership of global climate goals while amplifying local and regional engagement across Australia.

Join us in Sydney for Day 2 of AlterCOP 30 Australia – Sustainable Cities
This AlterCOP invites you to reimagine the cities we live, work, and connect in through the lens of the circular economy. Grounded in the latest thinking on sustainable resource use, climate resilience, and social equity, the Sustainable Cities programme explores how our transport systems, energy networks, water cycles, and waste streams can be redesigned to minimise waste, keep materials in use, and deliver benefits for both people and the planet.
Participants will uncover the drivers of urban resource challenges, connect them to broader environmental and social systems, and co-create pathways for inclusive, climate-positive cities. It’s an energising, collaborative experience designed to shift perspectives and inspire practical action.
The event encourages bold ideas, innovative solutions, and partnerships that will help shape thriving, circular, and climate-resilient urban futures.
About the Event
The Circular Economy Collage is a dynamic, science-based workshop designed to help participants understand the limitations of our current linear economic model—"take, make, dispose"—and explore the opportunities offered by a circular approach. Drawing inspiration from the Climate Fresk, this workshop enables participants to grasp the complexities of resource use, waste generation, and environmental impacts. Through collaborative discussions, attendees will identify actionable strategies to reduce consumption, minimize waste, and promote sustainable practices within their communities and organizations.
Agenda:
Circular Economy Collage: workshop to explore the principles of a circular economy and how they contrast with traditional linear models.
Panel of discussion: participants will learn from circular economy leaders about local solutions available for reuse, repair, repurpose and recycling. The discussion will be moderated by Jenni Philippe, Ambassador People for Nature
Networking: opportunity to connect further and reflect on the session
Speakers:
Annette Brodie, Founder and CEO, the Reconnect Project
Bridget Kennedy, Instigator & Co-Founder, The Sydney Library of Things
Kirsten Junor, CEO, Reverse Garbage
Marco Prayer Galletti, CTO and Co-founder, RecycleSmart
