What if there were no leads or follows? Switch N Swing combines both roles into one!

Switch N Swing is a partner dance based on 4 Step Swing where nobody's stuck in one role. Instead of Lead and Follow, partners are the Mover, who decides the movement, and the Groover, who creates the groove within it. You swap back and forth in every step, from Moving to Grooving and back again, so everyone learns the whole dance. We swing both ways. Lead, Follow, Switch — Just Swing!

We developed it from the role switching common in West Coast Swing, adapting it to 4 Step Swing and making it a permanent part of the dance. No default role, no waiting around for someone to Lead, and you walk out thinking of yourself as a dancer.

Complete beginners are welcome, and so are West Coast Swing and 4 Step Swing dancers keen to try something new. No partner or experience needed. We rotate throughout the workshop.

Afterwards we head a few doors up to Lulie Tavern for lunch together (optional, meals and drinks at your own cost). You'll still have your Sunday afternoon free.

Wear something comfortable you can move in, and shoes that let you pivot. Bring a water bottle.

One ticket gets you a 2-hour workshop and 30 minutes of social dancing. Workshops aren't covered by 4 Packs or the Newbie Duo available on the Social Swing Melbourne website.

Schedule

10:30am – Switch N Swing workshop (2 hours)
12:30pm – Social dancing
1:00pm – Lunch at Lulie Tavern, 225 Johnston St (optional, own cost)

Platform Studio, 219 Johnston St, Abbotsford. Victoria Park station is a one-minute walk away, and there's free street parking nearby.
