Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas is considered the first English Opera and initiated a new Baroque style. This talk will take us through mythology, the foundation of Rome, Virgil’s epic poem The Aeneid, an insight into baroque music and many of the secrets about Pinchgut’s production of this masterpiece.

Opera lover and journalist Domenico Gentile will present his video-conversations with professor of mythology Vassilios Adrahtas; Aaron Carpenè: Australian conductor, harpsichordist, organist, pianist, and early music specialist now living in Rome; tenor Louis Hurley; and Dido and Aeneas’ director Lucy Clements.
